The Natio(null) Sport...!!

This ain't cricket…no it isn't soccer too. Hockey, are you kidding me..?? Basketball, No ways! Wondering what I am talking about? It’s the sport the whole nation is zapped into. It attracts the highest TRPs if aired on television, the highest live audience if it happens to be in your vicinity, it unites the group like nothing else does. For some its bread and butter, for many it’s passion and for most it’s dirty entertainment (filthy lots..).No prize for guessing, but if you guess then you really is in sync with what’s happening around you.

I am talking about phenomena called “Hate speech” which looks the trendiest these days. You switch on television or peep into dailies you will see numerous instances of politicians defaming the other sides. There is no code of conduct for the speeches of our national leaders. They will go to any extent, deep into each other’s personal lives to bring malice to the opposite side. Are they our national heroes? Certainly not! No wonder, I do not come across any youth citing any contemporary politicians as their ideals. If I base my write-up only on the bad examples which our politicians are setting then I would be blamed of throwing up a hypocritical view. We cannot just blame our leaders/bureaucrats for this existing mud in our society. I feel at an individual level, common man is also engrossed deeply in this sport called “Hate speech”. Whereas for leaders, it fetch them bread and butter when they put down the other side, for common man, it’s mostly a source of entertainment or an invisible  tool sorts which they feel will help them defeat those whom they don’t go along well with.

I am not going to write on the ways the people are using this tool to create disharmony, distrust and disrespect in the environment. I am sure each individual at some point of time in life have used “hate speech” against someone for x set of reasons, and I bet, we have our own reasons and perspectives to support our bigoted action as a fair and just one! Let’s not get into it. Let’s try understanding how we can combat against this destructive gesture.

And the only way to bring this to halt is to understand that each and every life is respect worthy. There is certain elegance in being dignified and true dignity comes when we respect each and every life in our environment. If we start believing in the dignity of each and every life and understand that each life is worthy of and have equal rights to exist in this world, half the battle would be won. On a lighter note, you can find out your own reasons to stay away from this self-destructive sport. So when I am writing this piece, I am not saying that I am a saint who has never indulged in hate speech, but at a very early age, I could discover a very interesting mechanism working in my body (thanks to my Mom!) where I found popping of pimples in my face whenever I indulged in hate speech. And like any other teenager would have taken it up, to have a flawless skin throughout my life, I determined not to engage in this act ever (with few exceptions here and there…phew..;-)..)!!! So without waiting a moment find out your reasons to be away from this spo(r)t….!!

The Little Light...!!

My experiment with ink is not something new, but sharing it with a larger group has definitely been a rare phenomenon. After I got over the euphoria of having written my first blog it was time to write the other one! Writing another wasn’t a big task , fighting the nymphs within indeed was! Let me share this anecdote in relation to my writing, for you can take a cue from lessons I learnt and apply it in any pursuits. After publishing the blog, the appreciation that flowed in (let’s not talk about the criticisms here..!) , emanated a little pride and arrogance . Candid as it may sound, with it also came anxiety that would I be able to continue writing and keep up the promise I made to “unconventional wisdom” and encourage its readers. With anxiety came fear that what if I get restricted to being a “one blog wonder”.(not that my first blog was a block buster…;-)!).Days followed after writing the blog had been filled with extreme emotions ranging from confidence to confusions, from delightfulness of sharing my opinions to desperation of writing more, from splurge of accomplishing something to streak of arrogance. These myriad emotions kept hovering over me just like candles hovering over the Hogwarts feast (remember Harry Potter…).And with this hazy mind-set I began to put pen to paper. I did everything to come up with an apt topic. I woke up at 4 am (heard writers get up before the sun!), ate only fresh fruits on tenterhooks that it would generate some fresh ideas (does that even make sense..?), spent hours in coffee shop sipping copious cold coffees with vibrant hope that something will emerge..(yes fat did…!!). After few desperate attempts and lot of contemplation came the realisations. Firstly, to create something of lasting value , one needs to liberate oneself of detrimental emotions and thoughts (read anxiety, doubts, arrogance). Secondly, I was trying to create something original by copying the ways of others (Hell, I have to create my own ways …!) Thirdly, I was trying to create! (Does that even qualify for being a mistake??)Yes! For artist don’t create, they express! And so here I am to express, express all out and from the heart. It was the little light within me which steered and bubbled the provoking insights. The light is within each of us that can help us to lighten our lives, our paths. Its upto you to switch on that light and twinkle, twinkle like no one else does! Keep expressing! Cheers Unconventional wisdom and the ink..!

Its all about the benjamins, not the benjamins!

  1. The title sounds wierd but it is apt to the letter to what i am going to write..! I am no pro a writer neither a blogger but have all out passion to play with words just as well as Mr Coelho would have had when he started his writing voyage...(Brag on..!).I have always been wanted to write (i never said blog..huh!)but never knew how to start.Somebody had quoted " if you want to be a writer, write".Its so simple a logic and a fact at the sametime. The most beautiful part of being a writer is you need no capital, no licence, no employees, no plan, no qualification to write...you just have to write and write it out from your heart.Ah..here comes the twist..to write it out from your heart...does the harsh realities of the current times leave our heart , our soul with the courage, strength and guts to follow our inner calling.Did you say yes...?? But for those who had a plain No, this is no motivational writeup which will bring you closer to your calling (unless its your cell phone..;-)). Its an account of my own story to pickup the ink and blaze the path with unconventional wisdom. I am not here to tell you what all to do find out what gives you kick, you are all enlightened individulas when it comes to find out where your passion lies. But most of us falter when we get into the stuckzone where we think the only way to follow our passion is to make that our living and that we have to be world's best in it. Is pursuing passion all about that..making money and being best in trade? And so thinking that the passion will not fetch the Benjamins or that we are not skilled enough to fetch Benjamins,we never start working on the gifts which we possess. I could write today because i let go the feeling that i have to make money from my writing or that i have to be the best. I simply wrote because it was like breathing to me (an articulate one though..!). And what made to do this...my best friend, the "unconventinal wisdom". You too have it, close to you, it's the you which denies to follow the crowd, the convention and reminds you that you can shine in your own unique way.So what are you waiting for...blaze the path where your unconventinal wisdom takes you..! Though i now write simply as an expression of my persona...i still aspire to make living out of my writings..!Hey.. no harm in that..as long as it is not stopping me from expressing the authentic me. Afterall it's all about the Benjamins, not the Benjamins..!! Cheers, Unconventional wisdom and the ink! P.S.: Benjamin is the ecuadorian slang for money!! :)
